Vitar Gallery

Pictures of other Vitars from around the world…

  1. The singer from the original Sidewinder band has posted a few clips of Sidewinder on you tube, unfortunately not much video but the sound is there.

    I am also pretty sure this is the Vitar, much more grunty than the other two you tube clips.

    Sadly, there was a post on fiddleforum saying that Richard the violinist was paralysed in a car accident and can’t play any more.

    @Jeff Christy

    Hi Jeff – it’s hard to put a price on them due to the rarity… as far as electric violins go, they’re heavy and a little difficult to play, but they have a very unique sound and they’re definitely good for starting conversations. 🙂 If they were a little more common I’d guess they’d go for $300-$500US. Due to the rarity you could ask more and find someone out there willing to pay more just to get his hands on it. Make sure it has the battery pack and cable, since they are unique to the instrument and it’s a doorstop without them. If you can send me a few pictures I’d love to put them up on the site here – this is only the fifth Vitar I’ve heard of so far. 🙂

    Can you help me find the value of the Vitar? my dad passed away 2 years ago and i got his collection of violins. one of them happened to be a vitar serial
    V5-P-11. Had a band in the 70s and 80s called the Chris Douglas Band, They were from the Elmira, NY area. his band played a lot of southern rock and country. People were always amazed at how you play a 5 string. It was always fun to watch his band play. This is something that should be played in a band and used instead of tucked away in a closet. thanks Jeff

    @Mark

    I wish I was a Vitar Player but I am more of a Vitar Owner really! I like to play but I am not worthy to be listed with the rest of the real musos. Perhaps I should get a new tag!

    Heya Mietek… I wrote the Wikipedia page… I’m not primarily a Vitar player like you are, so I didn’t want to add myself…. Rob I can put you on there if you like 🙂 Or if you know anyone else who plays…

  2. Hi Guys,

    Check this out:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitar_violins

    We should add your names to this site. Do you know how to do it?

    Cheers,
    Mietek.
